People matter

At Made we believe that people matter. That’s why we make it our business to invest in our employees. Our workshop in Kenya was founded in 2005 with a view to harnessing the talent and skills of artisans in Kenya, whilst providing a safe working environment, long-term job security and training. Since then we have grown to employ over 60 men and women. From highly skilled craftsmen and women to novices eager to learn, our goal is to create sustainable jobs, teach new skills and empower developing communities in Kenya through the production of beautiful, unique and highly covetable accessories. We believe that by investing in our team we are not only acting responsibly but we are also able to create the best product possible.

Bidii School: Hope for a Generation

Here at Made we believe that hope is endemic. That's why we work hard to invest in and empower not only our employees and suppliers, but our neighbouring communities also. We believe that investing in children and young adults is one very important key to breaking the cycle of poverty in places such as Kibera where poverty, crime, unemployment and lack of education is prevalent. A key part of our work in Kenya is the financial and pastoral support of Bidii School in Nairobi's poorest area Kibera. Part of this support comes from your online purchases - of which 5% of the profit we donate to the funding of Bidii, it's teachers and students.

120 children aged 2-7 years attend the school which is situated at the heart of Kibera, East Africa's biggest slum and home to an estimated 1 million people. Boys and girls from the area are able to come to Bidii to learn to read, write and prepare for secondary school. Our teachers are dedicated to providing a stable, creative, stimulating environment with the often limited resources available to them. The one meal we provide at lunchtime will be the only meal of the day for many of our children and most face unimaginable challenges every day. Making Bidii a safe and stable place for the children to come and spend time is of paramount importance to us here at Made and is the driving force behind our commitment.

The needs of the school are constantly changing and ever-challenging. That is why it is so important that we continue to grow Made as a sustainable business model and thriving fashion brand. Put simply, the more we grow as a brand, the more we are able to support the children and teachers of Bidii and in turn, the wider community in and around Kibera.

Bidii was founded in 2006 by headteacher Consalata. Recognising a need for schooling for the children in Kibera she started Bidii with a dream that the children of Bidii will go on to join colleges and universities when they are older and break the cycle of poverty.

Your support of us here at Made goes so much further than you can ever imagine.

We are so grateful for your continued support as we strive to grow and expand our charitable arm in Kenya.
